There's something about food that not only brings people together but also brings me immense personal joy. It’s like an inner glow I get from life's simple pleasures—especially when living in a way that brings ease and happiness to my daily routine. I recently had the chance to experience that joy at Tashas' new restaurant in the lush LXX Sandhurst shopping mall.

As expected, the location boasts the classic interiors that the brand is known for—comforting, with natural colours that make you feel at home. I especially loved the section with couches, giving it the vibe of a fancy, upper-market suburban home. It felt warm and inviting.

This Tashas location also has a dinner service, something their loyal patrons have been requesting for years.

The dinner was filled with foodies, journalists, and industry editors. Seeing familiar faces I’ve missed and being told that I’ve been missed too—it was heartwarming. But let's get back to the food.

We devoured the 'Inspired By' menu. Our waiter was attentive, had flair, and brought a light, joyful energy to the experience, making the dinner all the more enjoyable. My starter was a prawn gratin, and it was divine. The dish was cheesy and flavoured with a tarragon mustard cream sauce, beautifully paired with toasted ciabatta bread. I cleaned my plate with pleasure.

To drink, I enjoyed a classic Paloma and a rooibos gin cocktail. I preferred the Paloma—it felt like a sip of summer in Europe (a place I’ve yet to visit, but I can imagine!). For dinner, I was intrigued by the chicken chops—a unique combination of chicken breasts, wings, and drumsticks presented as chops.

The flavours and aromas were out of this world, and it was generously served with herbed rice and a smashed cucumber and coriander salad.

Dessert, however, was a bit of a letdown.

I chose the cherry galette, which, while not overly sweet (a plus), was paired with ice cream that seemed a bit underwhelming. The galette itself didn’t quite hit the mark for me. On the other hand, some people at our table ordered the coffee pavlova, and it was the star of the show.

The meringue was perfection, paired with coffee cream and a pecan Florentine. A solid 10/10.

I’ll be heading back to Tashas in LXX Sandhurst—actually, I might just run there!
